Apply to become a member of the Akava Students’ Board!
Akava's Student Council will meet for the first time this year on Sunday 16 February. At the meeting, the Council will elect one member of the Akava Students' Board for 2025.
(Please note that the official working language of the Board is Finnish, but we will work hard to make working also in English possible.)
Akava Students is a community of more than 120,000 university students who work to influence both students and recent graduates. Its advocacy focuses on education, social, welfare and labour market policy issues. The Student Council of Akava is operationally managed by the Student Council under the leadership of the President and the Vice President.
At the end of the page you will find the application timetable. We will publish all pre-applications with attachments on the Akava website and will also send them to the members of the Council.
The Board
The Board members, together with the Presidium, is responsible for the operational activities of Akava students. Four members are elected each year.
The responsibilities of a new member of the Board will be decided at the next Board meeting after the Council meeting. The role will be defined according to personal interest and operational needs.
As a member of the Board, you will have the opportunity to build Akava’s students into an increasingly influential actor with a strong position in the Finnish labour market. Working in the Board requires commitment and time. It is a board position in a national union.
You can apply for the position by sending your free-form application and CV by e-mail to veikka.kuusisto@akava.fi with the subject line “Application for member of The Akava Students’ Board / your name”. The pre-application must be submitted no later than the meeting on 16 February 2025. It is also possible to stand for the post during the meeting of the Council. Please note that the Akava member organisation must nominate you as a member of the Students’ Board.
To the applicant
We will organise a candidate panel for candidates for the Board on Sunday 16 February 2025 after 14:00 during the Council meeting. The Council meeting will start at 14:00 and applicants are encouraged to attend the meeting.
We will organise an orientation session for the new Board member during February. Questions about the candidacy will be answered by Akava Students’ President Pauliina Ryökäs (044 7473 671, pauliina.ryokas@akava.fi) and Akava expert Veikka Kuusisto (050 383 1497, veikka.kuusisto@akava.fi) regarding the application, the meeting and practical matters. Please note that the application documents published on the website should also be submitted without personal data.
The Akava Student Council consists of Akava member organisations with student activities. All Akava member organisations with student members at the beginning of the term of office on 1 January 2025 can nominate representatives to the Council. The members of the Council must also be members of one of Akava’s member organisations.
