The Summer Job Helpline, provided jointly by the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK), Akava and the Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK) is once again open. The service answers the employment-related questions of summer employees by phone, WhatsApp and the service’s online form. This year’s Summer Job Advisor, Hanna-Marilla Zidan, strongly encourages all young summer employees to contact the service if they have questions related to any aspect of summer employment.
Statement by the Board of Akava: Conditions for competence, growth and security shall be reinforced
In its joint statement, the Board of Akava (Confederation of Unions for Professional and Managerial Staff in Finland) emphasises the importance of reinforcing the conditions for competence, growth and security. The statement raises the concern about the public finance situation and changes in the country risk for Finland while also underlining the relevance of co-operation in ensuring security and crisis resilience.
Labour market organisations put forth a joint discussion initiative on the impacts of digitalisation in workplaces
A joint discussion initiative on the impacts of digitalisation in workplaces was drafted by the labour market confederations Akava, the Confederation of Finnish Industries - EK, the Commission for Church Employers, Local Government and County Employers KT, the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK), Suomen Yrittäjät, the Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK) and the Office for the Government as Employer (VTML). The initiative proposes four themes and presents questions to launch discussions on the topic. In accordance with the themes, workplaces are asked to consider ways in which digitalisation has changed their work and customer behaviour as well as the types of digital skills that every member of their work community should possess.
Statement by organisation leaders on the IPCC report and the urgency of climate action
The IPCC Report published in August illustrates how climate change has accelerated. The leaders of the Confederation of Unions for Professional and Managerial Staff in Finland (Akava), Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC), the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK), Fingo (Finnish Development NGOs), the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK), the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) and the Finnish Confederation of Professionals (STTK) consider it vital that the climate objectives of Finland and the EU are adhered to and that it is possible to tighten the objectives as climate change accelerates. The signatories also call for the development of early warning systems for crises caused by climate change.
